In the bleak and ominous future, it's been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with racecars and liquor - but the Bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants. The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once again don the Dark Knight's cowl, and his dramatic capture of the villain returns him to crime-fighting, simultaneously making him the target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City. Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by the Mutant leader. Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns to protect Gotham from foes new... and old. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti The original is on a higher level, but Oliva approached it from the right direction. Weller’s thunderous voice is just right for the old man whose psychopath inside awoke with a mission to wipe out injustice. Good drawing, and the fights have pace and style. On the right road. ()

englanti An excellent first part which perfectly captures a standard superhero’s retirement. I must admit that the movie made me modify my opinion on comics, because this really isn't for kids. Honestly, something so dark, violent and brutal is rarely seen in a comic book. But, in fact, that's exactly what the book is like. Although the two main storylines are intertwined, they are different in terms of quality. Two-Face and everything around him is great and the end of his fight with Batman is brilliant. The second storyline isn’t as good because the leader of the mutants is a weak and insignificant villain. Nevertheless, the movie as a whole is really good. ()

englanti It is rather sad (and inappropriate) to adapt a comic that in its time both stood up to and defined itself against the mainstream (super)heroic movement in the most mainstream form possible, with attractive artwork and an emphasis on action. ()

englanti It is incomprehensible to me that while all the unmistakably Batman-style stories that were later adapted into animated adaptations (Batman: Hush, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) are modified, shortened, and even have the endings changed, Frank Miller's ticket to the comic book elite is instead rewritten in a servile and almost laughable way. It does have a sufficiently dark titular hero and a perfect storyline with Dent, but very often it tells the story through reporters on the TV screen, which repeatedly threw me off pace in the source material and unfortunately doesn't make sense in the film adaptation either.
