A handsome young couple (Brown and Lowell) moves from an apartment in Chicago to a spacious home on the edge of a forest in Los Angeles. Fortunately, for their newborn child, they also find the perfect live-in baby sitter (Seagrove). It all seems like a fairy tale, until it becomes apparent that the attractive English nanny is revealed to have a very strange relationship with a large tree in the forest. It isn't long before ancient supernatural forces turn the couple's dream into a nightmare, and they begin to battle the nanny for the child's soul. (Shock Entertainment)

Not particularly scary, but definitely atmospheric in a few scenes and for me an unforgettably likeable film. I mean the part where Camille deals with the trio of thieves, then the architect's escape from the wolves and hiding in the house, and of course the ending with the chainsaw, which was absolutely sensational. In fact, every time a tree that seemed to have fallen out of Evil Dead "came on the scene", The Guardian was perfect. It’s just too bad that the rest of the film is too stretched and topsy-turvy, and that the actors are quite bland.

For me, the name William Friedkin is associated with a guarantee of quality, but in this case, I probably would not like to rate The Guardian in terms of quality in any way. I think this is where Friedkin totally broke away and created a rather bizarre horror movie, which on the one hand jumps quite unbearably in time and fails to produce any real concern for the indistinct main characters. On the other hand, it is shot in a stylish way and conjures up both a radical and fantastic atmosphere which at times takes your breath away. I will also never forget the greatly exaggerated finale, in which there is no shortage of chainsaw action and streams of blood! It is no wonder Sam Raimi was originally briefly associated with this movie. The Guardian is a spectacle of a horror movie that definitely has some surprises up its sleeve.
