Eighteen-year-old Tadzik arrives at the home of his elder half-sister Anka for vacation. It soon comes to light that the feelings the young man entertains for his sister overreach socially accepted norms. Anka herself is somewhat emotionally unstable, floundering as she is in a less than joyous relationship with the leader of a local neo-Nazi group; she dreams of a better future. Experienced documentarist Marczewski never slips into the cheap sensationalism engendered by his controversial subject. On the contrary, he demonstrates great understanding for his characters and their dilemma. In another plot line, the picture presents a self-confident Romany girl named Irmina and her attempts to get out of the wedding arranged by her father; her plan is to make Tadzik notice her. In his feature debut, Marczewski develops the theme of his successful short film Melodrama, rounding it out with the highly topical motif of racial intolerance. The role of Tadzik is powerfully played by one of Poland’s most distinctive young actors, Mateusz Kościukiewicz. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

englanti A controversial subject (an intimate relationship between brother and sister), sensitively shot but with insensitive editing, which turns Shameless into a harmless and bland small film that you will forget about by the next day. ()
