Icelandic cinematography has a very good name and whenever I see there is an Icelandic movie on, I immediately tune in and I expect the highest possible quality. I had really been looking forward to City State and even the reviews that it got here weren’t too bad. In the end, however, I was really surprised at how weirdly the movie was made. At times, the music doesn’t really fit, some scenes are brutally amateurish. The shaky camera is only a cherry on top of the pie of bullshit that turns the movie into a boring affair, and what is worse into a load of bollocks. I mean the movie could have been a lot better. It would have been enough for it to be shot in a bit more normal manner than the way it was, and then I guess I would have liked it. But since the plot doesn’t really move anywhere from beginning to end, I doubt the result could have been any better. For me, the whole thing was a huge disappointment. (08.03.2013)
