The Prize

The autobiographic picture develops the bitter story of young Cecilia whose life is strongly influenced by the Argentinean military regime. To escape the repressive power, she hides with her mother in a shabby beach house at the village's edge. The director creates an agonizing memory of the oppressive era which leaves deep traces in the child's psyche. The carelessness of a child's world bitterly contrasts with grievous external reality. The fumbling and insecurity of the girl who tries to understand is depicted with great authenticity and candour. At the same time, the emphasis on the hostile seaside landscape, veiled in mist, elicits the impossibility of escape. (Febiofest)
