Seven Acts of Mercy

Two people living at society's edge stand in the centre of attention in the debut of the directing duo, brothers Massimiliano and Gianluca De Seri. A young Romanian immigrant must steal food to survive, and a lonely old man seems to be the perfect victim. The girl breaks into the old man's apartment and locks him in the closet for several days. However, the initial indifference soon transforms into a strange sympathy of the shared suffering. The picture captivates by its harsh portrayal of a life without a home, and by the minimalist depiction of the pair's relationship, as they communicate just with gestures. (Febiofest)
