When 20-year-old Lukas arrives in Cologne, a summer of late nights, clubs heaving with hot guys and insurmountable self-discovery awaits. I haven't seen many films with transsexual themes, but I have always been very interested in them – e.g. Transamerica or Soldier's Girl. Romeos looks promising at first glance, as it deals with transsexual transition in a recent adult and all that goes with it. Personally, I had a lot of trouble sympathizing with any of the characters, because it felt like they were all over-the-top, in fact, they all acted irrational to the point of being annoying. The short videos of Lukas commenting on his transformation were interesting, but after watching the film, I found myself kind of deprived of any deeper and stronger story.
