Two men at a table: Werner Herzog on the left and Laurens Straub on the right. I am my Films appears to be an experiment in which a solitary filmmaker is encouraged to speak – an experiment with an open outcome. Herzog tells of how he breaks into strangers’ houses, how important walking is to him, and what he wants to express in his films. He weaves together anecdotes and portrays himself as a lone wolf and genius chronicler of human civilisation. Straub’s attempts to fathom the director’s personal motivations for his films are cut short. The fashion in the film is also of interest, being totally in the style of the seventies.
