Ghost of John Holling, The

A murder-plagued ocean liner, equipped with a newly designed remote control steering device and packed with plenty of plausible suspects, requires the help of a detective (Edwin Maxwell as Major Pope) to deduce the guilty party's identity. After the ship's captain (Noah Beery) falls ill, he is replaced by First Mate Downey (Boothe Howard), who may or may not have poisoned the captain in order to get his job. Pandemonium erupts when the inventor (Ralph Lewis) of the vessel's steering device is found strangled to death, and things become increasingly chaotic when First Mate Downey soon follows suit. The fact that there are a bevy of suspicious characters onboard doesn't help matters a bit, and Major Pope is left to weed through the suspects to determine whodunit and why.
