Juonikuvaukset(1)

(Atlantic Film Fin.)

englanti A biographical film, yet I still had the feeling that it was a kind of sweet attempt to bring a classic to contemporary people and to teach someone among the youth, who may not read much, that someone like Goethe existed, and that he was actually quite an interesting guy worth taking an interest in, along with his work. I'm not sure the movie accomplished this, because it didn't entertain that much. ()

englanti A thoroughly enjoyable encounter with Goethe at the time that inspired him to write "The Sorrows of Young Werther." It's not that much of an odd choice; in recent years, filmmakers have often given up the ambition to describe the entire life of their chosen genius. It’s a playful, tender, romantic film that candidly tells of the joys and sorrows of life in early adulthood. The lead duo of Alexander Fehling and Miriam Stein is electrifying, and Volker Bruch (here as Wilhelm Jerusalem) was yet to become great. The film Lotte in Weimar, about the famous second meeting of the old lovers, provides an interesting comparison. ()
