Hector (Simon Pegg) is a quirky psychiatrist who has become increasingly tired of his humdrum life. As he tells his girlfriend, Clara (Rosamund Pike), he feels like a fraud: he hasn't really tasted life, and yet he's offering advice to patients who are just not getting any happier. So Hector decides to break out of his deluded and routine driven life. Armed with buckets of courage and child-like curiosity, he embarks on a global quest in hopes of uncovering the elusive secret formula for true happiness. (Entertainment One)

englanti You are mainly here for Simon Pegg, whom I simply love. He fits every role and he is good in every role. Moreover, he is both humorous and nostalgic here, which suits him well. But the story is just a blend of movies like "Forrest Gump" or "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". The story could be interesting if it wasn't so small and simply about the search for happiness. I probably shouldn't have seen Rosamund Pike in "Gone Girl", because I still see her as really crazy. ()

englanti I like movies where the main character runs away from his life by traveling. Luckily, a few movies like this have appeared in the last few years and so it seemed like Hector and the Search for Happiness didn’t have to turn out disappointing. But it did. The actors were great. Simon Pegg, Rosamunde Pike or Jean Reno have taken this one level higher. But the search for happiness itself was worse. The movie has put two different approaches on trial. One is a search for power, other one for happiness and the little things in life. But the examples, be it Asia or Africa, were put together so awkwardly that instead of enjoying a genuinely honest movie, I was frustrated, because the movie just wasn’t genuinely honest. And no matter how hard the charming Simon Pegg tried, he couldn’t fix my mood. ()
