Apricot Island is an intimate story that takes place in Southern Slovakia in a bilingual, Slovak-Hungarian environment. The story sets off during a summer thunderstorm, when Babika – the main protagonist – is returning home from a lake where she goes swimming. An old truck pulls over to offer her a drive home... Thus she meets the Man, the truck’s driver. Their accidental encounter develops into a passionate affair that lasts for several weeks. Babika and the Man meet every Friday, always when he brings vegetables to the town. But one Friday, he fails to come, never to appear again. However, fate has it that the story does not stop here.

While buying a car at a used-cars store, she comes across the Man’s truck, and follows the tracks that she believes will lead her to her fated love. The clues bring her to a little out-of-the-way Slovak-Hungarian village in Southern Slovakia. Here, she learns ‘her’ Man is no longer alive. In the village, Babika meets the Man’s two sons – Lajcsi and Jancsi. She decides to stay to better know the past and the life of her love. As time passes, both brothers fall in love with Babika and a conflict starts to develop between them. This unusual triangle becomes ever more tangled, slowly paving the way for a tragic finale.
