This comedy features a young Tracy as an ex-lifeguard who can't swim. He and friend Cooper try to desert the army after being drafted during WW I, but inadvertently end up in the war zone. Boyd is their tough-as-nails sergeant, who tries to make their lives miserable. When the two go A.W.O.L. to win Dvorak's affections, they somehow end up destroying an enemy ammunition site while fighting over the lady. They return as heroes but cause a row in their own ranks when demonstrating how they surprised the Germans. The episodic structure works well for what this is, and Tracy delivers a good performance. A few of the production talents went on to much better projects. The airplane footage includes leftover takes from HELL'S ANGELS, another Hughes-produced film. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)
