An editorial documentary dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the birth of Czechoslovakia. It explores the developments in the history of our state, decade by decade. October 1918, the year 1928, Munich Treaty, the first stages of the War from the point of view of the Czechoslovak politics. The documentary also briefly mentions the events between 1945 and 1968. If I’d been a student in the carefree year of 1968, I would watch this documentary with pride (and twice over after 21 August, which on the other hand, made us remember the Nazi occupation). It’s a pity that it pretty much skips the Communist era and that it idealises and generalises the personalities so much, but as a cross-section of a small, high-principled nation surrounded by great powers it’s fine.
