Two newly weds Adjie and Astrid, along with 3 of their best friends decided to have an interstate road trip as a last attempt to reconcile Adjie with his estranged little sister Ladya. Their trip is however abruptly interrupted when they run into Maya, a strange girl out of nowhere, who wanders aimlessly into their path. "I've been robbed" is all she has to say. The friends unanimously decided to give her a ride to her isolated house by the end of the woods. Maya introduces Adjie and friends to her blue-blooded mother Dara, a woman of ageless enigma and few spoken words. Dara insists that their kindness should be repaid with a dinner feast. This is where the night turns into a crimson-hell for the 6 friends, who find themselves trapped and hunted down by Dara and her cult-like family of her three deadly protégés, born and raised to systematically eliminate unsuspecting passers-by for one nefarious reason. Slaughtered one by one, everybody will bleed, the darkest of nights never looked so red. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti I wasn’t very interested in this film because Asian splatters are mostly not my thing, but Macabre turned out to be a pleasant surprise (as other reviews mention, it’s closer to modern western exploitation like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Inside). It doesn’t have any originality at all, but it’s so bloody and brutal that it caught me off guard. In the last minutes, that house is entirely painted in red, from roof to cellar. I also quite liked the supernatural twist and I’m surprised it’s not used more in this type of horror. ()

englanti I want to throw up... Not from the disgust, which in this case will shock no one, but from the unforgivable audacity of the creators to mock my common sense so violently. An even bigger dud than the spineless You Are Next, with disjointed narrative, confused editing, unlikeable and at times almost invulnerable characters, and most importantly, a non-existent story with a structure pulled out of thin air and individual elements, from the clunky dialogue to the overblown gore, that come off as completely nonsensical, unoriginal and disgustingly self-serving. Sorry folks, but by the end I couldn't care less if someone gets saved or undergoes a thorough enema with a chainsaw and their kidneys end up on the dining table of an average Singaporean family – I really don't buy this fairy tale...
