To avoid a ghostly figure in the road, high-school senior Brent Mitchell crashes into a tree, killing his father. Confronted by his mother's emotional breakdown after the accident, Brent escapes his guilt by sinking into a marijuana-fuelled world of loud metal music. His only shot at happiness is with his girlfriend Holly, an attractive and caring girl who would be a dream date for the high-school prom. But his plans are thwarted by a disturbing series of events that result in Brent being the prom king at a macabre, sadistic event where he is the entertainment. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti This is a very intense and rough ride that shows that a really good idea, combined with great gore, will make the audience's insides churn. This is what happens when you reject a crazy girl for prom. It's better to go out with that girl, because otherwise it could end really badly. ()

englanti And they say love is a beautiful feeling. As I watched that severely disturbed romantic soul attempting a lobotomy on her dream prince, I was happy that the only one who looks lovingly at me is our cat, when he wants to eat. The concept of intertwining two almost unrelated lines that portray burning adolescence desires from different perspectives (and the dream encounter with the metal girl is hands down the more pleasant and joyful) is pretty good and the pair of villains generate a kind of repulsion I haven’t felt in a long time, but the potential remains mostly unfulfilled. Already a couple of days after the screening, my memories of the film are unfortunately fading and what remains are only a few bold and interesting scenes; I really rooted for that tied-down and sexually abused poor soul and I won’t get those sequences out of my head very easily. 65% ()

englanti If A Serbian Film hadn’t already surprised us, The Loved Ones would be the best exploitation horror of the year. Barbies are insane, I always say that… And by the way, this film has a great “horror” song (several days later, I think that that scene is one of the most intense I’ve seen this year in the genre). The script is not very original, but it does have a several nicely brisk moments. In terms of brutality, The Loved Ones is not that extreme, but the twisted atmosphere arising from the relationship between the Dad, the Princess and the other members of the household make this film something more than memorable. I’m satisfied. 8/10 ()

englanti A clinical cure for emos which, instead of keeping to a half-hour short, it has been artificially, but humorously, drawn out but including two unconnected storylines. While it would have been enough the make the black-haired girl Brent’s girlfriend and this could have been the hardest-hitting short for a long time. Although I didn’t notice the walk-on by B-movie (sub)guru Roman Kroufek, but at least it’s motivation to watch it a second time. And the story of how, in Jaroslav “I stroked Obama" Suchý-style, he managed to get onto the set during shooting is material for a whole other short itself. ()
