Ohjaaja Brad Anderson tarjoilee karmivan, apokalyptisen trillerin, joka iskee hampaansa yhteen ihmis kunnan primitiivisimmistä aisteista: pimeänpelkoon. Selittämätön ilmiö syöksee Detroitin täydelliseen pimeyteen. Auringon noustessa vain muutama selviytyjä on hengissä – tyhjien vaatekasojen, hylättyjen autojen ja pitenevien varjojen ympäröiminä. Kourallinen henkiinjääneitä (Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton, John Leguizamo ja Jacob Latimore) onnistuvat kukin löytämään tiensä rähjäiseen kuppilaan, jonka bensa täyttöinen generaattori sekä muona- ja juomavarasto tarjoavat autiokaupungin viimeisen turvapaikan. Päivänvalon vähetessä kohti olematonta ja kuiskivien varjojen ympäröidessä selviytyjät, heille selviää vihollisen olevan itse pimeys, ja vain muutaman, ehtyvän valon lähteen pitävän heidät turvassa. Ajan käydessä vähiin ja pimeyden nuollessa jo ihoa, on ryhmän kohdattava äärimmäinen kauhu – vastatusten. (SF Film Fin.)

Vanishing on 7th Street really pissed me off. It has a very good and original idea, some scenes have a nicely dark and thick atmosphere, but the script ruins everything it can. I don’t necessarily demand horror characters behave logically, but there are limits… The plot basically doesn’t move forward, and when it does, it’s so brutal that everything falls apart. By the end I had the feeling that the creators were laughing at horror fans. Brad Anderson should pick better scripts, because with stuff like this he’ll never do another Session 9.

Good for you, you exist! Of courser he has to run away, even if somebody is yelling at him not to leave. Anakin has become Luke, for some goddamn reason the shadows start to murmur and everybody behaves like idiots. A couple of quite well-made scenes are to be found, but it leaves a bitter taste because questions remain unanswered while the movie throughout concentrates on hogwash. But the visuals are quite decent. Empty streets are always fine. Hm, and that’s all I can praise about it.

The creators of the movie "Vanishing on 7th Street" must have watched "Lost" a lot and they really liked the element of fog, which appeared here and devoured people. And so – to avoid it being so pathetic – they said to themselves that instead of fog they will choose darkness and they will have a proper horror, which will also have some philosophical undertones. Haha. Nothing like that happens and you don't get an interesting or good movie. Too bad, but with a similar beginning, the viewer must expect such a progression.
