Elokuvassa Kapteeni Martin Stone (A. Tiernan) johtaa amerikkalaisten ja suomalaisten sotilaiden treenattua valiojoukkoa, joka hyökkää vastustajan bunkkeriin. Vastustajan voimien arviointi menee kuitenkin pieleen ja valiojoukko joutuu vetäytymään takaisin metsään, jossa he itse joutuvat hyökkäyksen kohteeksi. Hyökkääjinä ovat samat sotilaat, jotka he ovat juuri hetki sitten tappaneet. Miehet joutuvat pakenemaan syvemmälle Venäjän alueelle, jossa he keksivät yhden sodan kamalimmista salaisuuksista. I probably would have liked War of the Dead more if it was a book because the movie adaptation is not very good. Even though the co-production War of the Dead takes place in the woods, and an oppressive atmosphere is created by the feeling the enemy could appear from anywhere, it still lacks suspense, not to mention horror. It is a great shame because the setting, the period, and the storyline would have really worked if the visuals were not so bad.

A Lithuanian action zombie horror that looks very nice… and that’s all there is to it. The plot never escalates, it goes into shooting mode from the very first minute and, save for some short breaks, stays there until the end. The most apt word I can think to describe it is “numbing”.
