Fortunately, I haven't read the comic, so I am going into the series without high expectations. I quite liked the pilot, it introduced interesting characters and a somewhat depressed group of locals led by a priest. There were also a decent amount of action scenes in the beginning, and even some existential philosophizing. The only thing that surprised me was the medieval armory on board a private jet when Cassidy appeared on the scene, but what do I know about the equipment of private planes...
