Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is a very special and great show indeed. Watching it, I often had the impression that I was not watching an anime series, but something created by the gentlemen from Cartoon Network. The humor was very unexpected and reminded me more of a crazy cartoon than an anime series. However, then there were parts, like the one where the girls were changing or where blood was spraying out of their noses, and I realized again that this really was an anime series. Even the tentacles came up (for those who have not seen them or who say they are not there, I would recommend watching the "beach episode" again, where the "ghost" of a large octopus appears, among other things). So it is a hilarious mix of both that is great to watch. It is also clear that the anime's creators had a lot of fun. I think that, especially when coming up with various figures (or rather "ghosts"), the team must have had a lot of fun, and I had the impression that the anime's creators must have watched Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers in their youth. There are also plenty of references to various well-known blockbusters for movie lovers. I enjoyed the pace of each narrative and the whole anime series, which had a cool "drive" and gave the impression that something was always happening. Even the fight scenes were great. Another cool thing was the absurdity. The main female protagonists are fallen angels, one is completely horny, and the other is a "gothic Lolita girl" with a passion for sweets. Then we have two demonesses who seem stiff and use words like "rule" too often. It is just completely flipped, and the angelic sisters are more true to their last name, "Anarchy," than their celestial origins. Reverend Garterbelt is also a very interesting character, although I am not too surprised by the priest's predilection for young boys. However, I did not expect a preference for BDSM. Among the positive aspects, I must mention the soundtrack, which I liked very much. The ending surprised me pleasantly, and there was a love story, which I did not expect at all, plus the last episode was shocking, insane, and hilarious, just like this whole anime series. All in all, this show is just a crazy ride that makes do with a straightforward narrative and insane albeit really cool characters. It is a refreshing, interesting, and hilarious show. However, something tells me that in six months, I am only going to vaguely remember what it was about, although I am definitely going to remember the likes of Panty, who I am incredibly fond of for some strange reason. 8/10.
