Your Friend the Rat

As far as the animation is concerned, it is a very imaginative companion short to the phenomenal feature film Ratatouille, in which we get a glimpse into the history of rats, pointing out that they are not actually pests at all, and therefore we should appreciate them more and not have to kill them right away. This Pixar short film shows that the creators at this studio are not afraid of challenges. They alternate different drawing styles, play with animation as well as with animated film as such, and you are watching a little gem. Different and beautiful artistic styles are actually used here, and it looks beautiful. The story isn't necessarily funny, but it's enjoyable. "Your Rat Friends" is actually an animated mockumentary about how rats are actually beneficial. Why not? It's a great portrayal. An animated short film doesn't have to be just a grotesque. It shows at least its genre and artistic breadth. (07.11.2013)
