The Preacher

This is certainly not as good as Mike van Diem's Character, but it is worth watching. It is a European gangster film depicting the rise of a young man from a business family who decided to outdo his unpopular father by moving the business into the illegal sphere of distributing illicit drugs. He considers his trade essentially like any other business and thinks he will avoid traditional criminal practices. But the competition does not sleep, and so his ideas of not dirtying his hands with blood soon become obsolete. In the end, his profession takes away the most precious thing a person has in life. The film has several flaws: firstly, there are no surprises, as we already see the protagonist's end in the opening scene, to which the following story leads. Even to an average viewer, it becomes practically clear immediately who actually underlined The Preacher and how the plot will develop further. Nevertheless, in its genre, it is a slightly above-average gangster film, but without significant action scenes or unexpected twists. Overall impression: 60%. (05.03.2010)
