Ahdistavien ajatustensa raastama nuorukainen, Mark Chapman, saapuu New Yorkiin. Chapman tahtoo tavata idolinsa, yhden aikansa suurimmista julkkiksista, John Lennonin. Tavata – ja tappaa. Chapmania riivaavat ristiriitaiset tunteet Lennonia kohtaan. Toisaalta hän ihailee Beatlesia ja Lennonia suuresti, toisaalta häntä kalvavat kateus ja viha. Tilanne kärjistyy 8. joulukuuta, 1980. Chapman ryhtyy odottamaan Lennonia tämän asuintalon, The Dakotan, edustalla. Seuranaan miehellä ovat vain rakastamansa, ahkerasti siteeraamansa romaani, Sieppari ruispellossa, murhanhimoiset ajatuksensa –ja .38-kaliiperinen revolveri... Kun Mark Chapman pidätettiin John Lennonin murhasta, hän nimesi J.D. Salingerin klassikkoromaanin ja sen päähenkilön, Holden Caulfieldin, tekonsa inspiraatioksi. Sieppari ruispellossa sisältää 26 lukua, 27. luku kuuluu ikuisesti Mark Chapmanille. (Future film)

I don't blame the creators that the story is completely authentic, I don't blame Leto for being willing to be disguised like this, and I don't blame the world for believing how important Lennon was for culture. But why did I have to watch this tragic event with such a boring perspective, that I really don't understand. It's just an empty monologue, a dilemma with a gun, and an analysis of an adored book. Such an Assassination at the Ambassador worked throughout and the final inevitable event only intensified all of my feelings. After ten minutes, I understood with Lennon that what Chapman will do at the end will be the only moment that can still save the film. Unfortunately, even this fateful moment is presented so stupidly and carelessly that it perhaps magnifies the feeling of uselessness. P.S.: Leto doesn't shine in any case. He simply can't be recognized.
