Lassie on ajaton tarina nuoren pojan ja hänen koiransa vahvasta ystävyydestä. Lassien uuden seikkailun tapahtumat sijoittuvat pieneen yorkshireläiseen kaivoskaupunkiin ja toisen maailmansodan alkuaikoihin. Köyhän Carraclough´n perheen on pakon edessä myytävä rakas koiransa Lassie Rudlingin herttualle (Peter O´Toole). Herttua kuljettaa Lassien häkissä kaukana Skotlannissa sijaitsevaan linnaansa. Vaikka tilanne näyttää epätoivoiselta, Lassie ei anna periksi, vaan päättää karata ja löytää tien takaisin rakkaan perheensä luokse. Edessään sillä on raskas matka, täynnä niin luonnon kuin ihmisen aiheuttamia vaaroja. Mutta Lassie on päättänyt ehtiä jouluksi kotiin. (SF Film Fin.)

Lassie might be a doggo that has been the subject of a movie a thousand times. But even the thousandth time over, I still like this story. In this case, it’s purely thanks to the nice fairy-tale atmosphere and the nature of Scotland and Ireland. That was certainly a pleasure to behold. And the well-known family story of a dog that returned to its master is a cherry on the pie. The medieval-fairy-tale atmosphere and the beautiful nature do the trick. Yeah, I must admit that, to my pleasure, Peter Dinklage did a lot with his traveler character. Well, once you are touched by Game of Thrones, it’s hard to see the actors in a different light in other movies.
