Martha Beck (Hayek) and Raymond Fernandez were America's notorious "Lonely Heart Killers." Their lethal scam was simple; they would swindle and then viciously murder lovelorn war widows who would answer their proposal ads in which Ray would describe himself as a sexy Latin Lover. Ironically, Ray's initial introduction to Martha was a prospective mark. But when they met, it was love at first sight, perhaps as a result of their passion for hot-blooded sex and cold-blooded murder. With Martha posing as Ray's sister, they swindled elderly spinsters and widows of their savings then viciously murdered them in a bloodbath of sexual frenzy. Raymond and Martha believe they're literally getting away with murder until homicide detectives Elmer C. Robinson and Charles Hildebrandt pick up their scent. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti If for nothing else, the scene between John Travolta and Salma Hayek makes this film very much worth seeing. But don't worry, it's excellent throughout, it just has a few slower (but not boring) parts. ()

englanti A relatively heterogeneous crime story that may not captivate with its simple and straightforward plot, but does impress with the contrast it offers to the viewer. For a moment, we see an almost retro crime story full of tough cops, and a minute later, we see a mentally disturbed couple killing women and children in often quite brutal ways. Lonely Hearts is certainly not a bad film, it has a decent cast, but unfortunately, it fails to touch the heart. Travolta's character is downright artificial, his emotional issues are unnecessarily highlighted and unbelievable. The emotional bond with his son is also poorly portrayed, and there are some question marks hanging over the murderous duo as well. It's not a bad project, but I understand why it's missing from cinemas. It still feels closer to a TV production. ()

englanti A solid atmospheric crime drama with a very good John Travolta, a balding Jared Leto and a chilling Salma Hayek. Like most true stories from that era, this one is a bloodbath. ()

englanti Well-directed, occasionally even unconventional in terms of plot, but I couldn't understand what the film was supposed to give me. Noir alternates with black comedy, one-liners with brutality, and when the ending burns everything down, I can only shake my head. Nevertheless, it is a snappy detective story, mainly driven by Travolta, who, despite the treacherous script full of clichéd lines, squeezes out only the best from himself. ()
