One of those really honest flicks that at first glance entices you to watch "just" a modern western spectacle, but at second glance offers much more. Kirk Douglas is perfect as the loner (he actually has only his horse), I also liked Walter Matthau very much, and I can't forget the music by Jerry Goldsmith, whose career took on well-deserved momentum thanks to this film (he was recommended by Alfred Newman to Douglas). The ending was beautiful, the opening minutes with the cowboy in the new era were brilliant.__P.S. The only issue is the TV dubbing...__P.P.S. And the (albeit this time only slightly) cropped picture...
