United States Marshals Bob Steele and Hoot Gibson ride to the town of Eggleston, Arizona, to investigate the killing of Bob's father, the manager of the local stagecoach line. On the trail to Eggleston, they witness a gang of outlaws attack a stagecoach. After chasing away the robbers, Bob and Hoot are thanked by the grateful passengers, Sally and Tom Buchanan, who are traveling to town to purchase a ranch, and Kelso McGuire, the powerful businessman who controls the town. As they near Eggleston, Bob and Hoot then discover the body of Furness, a rancher who had opposed a band of lawless men bent on driving the ranchers from their land.
