Throughout his tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, serviceman Bus Riley (Parks) keeps his spirits high by dreaming about reuniting with his beautiful girlfriend Laurel (Ann-Margret.) His designs crumble when, upon returning to his Midwestern hometown, he finds Laurel married to a wealthy older man.
