When the new railroad is scheduled to go through the frontier town of Rock Ridge, corrupt State Attorney General Hedley Lamarr sends thugs to scare the townspeople off the newly valuable land so he can buy it himself. This causes the citizens to demand that the Governor appoint a new sheriff to protect them. Lamarr convinces the simple-minded Governor to appoint a black railroad worker named Bart, thinking that the racist townsfolk will either move away or lynch him. But the quick-witted, urbane Bart and his alcoholic sidekick The Waco Kid set out to win over the town. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti Those few good jokes cannot hide the omnipresent awkwardness and inanity. I’ve never been a fan of Mel Brooks and this film is not going to change that. ()

englanti An average parody with a few strong moments. Fortunately, Brooks later pulled himself out of the rut completely and created something more than just a decent comedy as in this case. ()

englanti In it’s time, an undoubtedly ground-breaking comedy thanks to a completely new style of parody and the previously forbidden vulgar humour, now it’s just a rather cringe piece of crap mocking basic western motifs and obviously referring to racial issues. The comic situations "unfortunately" take on unprecedented proportions, with absolutely brilliant (chess, ku-klux-klan), hilarious (beans), embarrassing and downright pathetic (I suffered quite a bit for the first 20 minutes) jokes standing side by side. Those 3 stars are very reluctant, I definitely expected more from Mel Brooks. 50% ()

englanti Mel Brooks is simply a legend and at times he managed to create such great movies with such great scenes on screen that they rightly became part of the history of world cinema, not just comedy. "Blazing Saddles" is one such film and I'm glad that I finally got to see it. The politically incorrect humor is fantastic. ()
