Kat Ellis (Debra Messing) on New Yorkissa asuva sinkku, joka eräänä päivänä saa kutsun siskonsa häihin Lontooseen. Kat huomaa kauhukseen, että bestman on hänet pari vuotta aiemmin jättänyt ex-poikaystävä. Välttääkseen antamasta itsestään häissä surkean sinkun vaikutelmaa, Kat yrittää epätoivoisesti keksiä keinon selviytyä tilaisuudesta kunnialla. Ratkaisuksi löytyy seuralaispalvelu, jossa työskentelee komea Nick (Dermot Mulroney). Kat uhraa säästönsä ja palkkaa Nickin esittämään uutta poikaystävää. Nick herättääkin suurta ihastusta sekä Katin ystävissä että vanhemmissa. Nick osaa hoitaa roolinsa ammattilaisen ottein ja hänellä on enemmän vaikutusta Katiin ja hänen perheeseensä kuin olisi ikinä uskonut. Kat huomaa yllätyksekseen, että hänen kiinnostuksensa Nickiä kohtaan ei ole pelkästään ammattimaista.
