The very embodiment of the shadowy face of puberty, a teenage boy winds up in a special re-education program after beating a classmate with an iron rod. Inside, he meets the young rebel, Shirley, who was brought there for bludgeoning a girl with a stone. The first meeting with a pure filmmaking of Luxembourg was almost flawless. Unknown language, places, locations, people or actors… All of that contributed to me being absolutely clueless of what to expect of a movie like this. The most interesting was the story, which deserved my attention at the first glance. And after watching it I have to say it was completely justified. My unfamiliarity with the Luxembourg mentality meant that I had no idea what can happen next. The director perfectly pictured two human souls who lived through their childhood the way they felt at the moment. While at times what they did to the people around them was nasty, on the other hand you can’t deny there was the honesty to play and just enjoy their childhood. The director really captured that so while they made me sick, they also made me really sad. It’s a pity the ending just faded into the void.
