Godzilla's 50th Anniversary project and costliest adventure to date out of 28 films. Earth has been relatively peaceful since Godzilla was successfully buried deep in ice beneath the South Pole. Then - sometime a few years hence-several of his old nemeses return to wreak havoc on cities worldwide. A huge spaceship suddenly appears and neutralizes all the monsters in a blink. The visitors are "Xiliens," who take human form and announce they would like to negotiate a peace treaty that would replace the United Nations with a "United Universe". They are indeed too good to be true, however. It doesn't take long before their nefarious real purpose is exposed - conquering Earth. Greatly outmatched, Earth officials decide to de-freeze Godzilla as man's only hope to vanish the invaders, as well as the monsters they control. Only trouble is Godzilla is still mad at man for freezing him in the first place. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti 29) GODZILLA: FINAL WARS – NEW GENERATION SERIES 2002-2004. The final farewell may feel cluttered, but it's not boring. There are references to Star Wars (the spaceship of hostile aliens looks like the Death Star), The Matrix (stopping bullets with Neo's hand movement) and previous episodes (especially in the numerous Godzilla opponents that take turns), and there are also kung fu fights of "mutants", samurai sword fighting, motorcycle chases, etc. The production design is lavish, as befits a farewell to an overgrown lizard, and die-hard fans will be pleased to know that the filmmakers didn't resort to CGI, Godzilla still gives that cute, clumsy impression of an actor dressed in a rubber costume. Godzilla may not have as much space as I would have expected, as its revival from the ice floe doesn't come until the 2nd half of the film, but otherwise I'd say it walks away with its head held high in his farewell. englanti It almost seemed like this is enough as a tribute, but it's necessary to realize that they really made an effort to make this currently last film worth it. Yes, most kaiju here have relatively little space, but it's compensated by the fact that their battles are worth it, thrilling, and entertaining. Whether it's Gojira or someone else fighting, these battles are simply imaginative. ()
