AT MIDNIGHT I'LL TAKE YOUR SOUL is the first horror movie from Brazil, and introduced to the world the top hat- and cape-bedecked, long fingered creepiness of Marins' character Joe. José Mojica Marins showed with the film "At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul" that horror can really be made anywhere, but that one needs talent for a quality horror film. And Marins definitely had talent. More than fifty years ago, he was not afraid to include a bit of explicitness, but he still succeeds mainly thanks to the oppressive atmosphere and intensity of individual scenes. The final scenes are truly a highlight, including from the perspective of the masks.
