During World War I, an ancient feud divides the industrial area in the county of Nógrád. The workers of the steal factory start a strike, but the miners do not support their cause. Sanyi from the steal factory and Ilonka from the mining community fall in love with each other, but can only meet secretly. When the boy dances with the girl in the pub of the miners, he is recognised and knocked down. The workers of the steal plant do not receive their bread as a result of the strike. Ilona tells the miners that Sanyi's father will not report the attack on his son to the police. The miners' wives take this as a sign of peace and leave to meet the steal factory workers, taking their bread ration along for them. Before their arrival, the starving wives of the steal factory workers attack the lorry transporting bread. Ilona is with them. The armoured train on curfew opens fire on them, fatally wounding the girl. The two camps conclude peace over her dead body. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)
