1922. Sándor serves as a farm-hand, but would like to become a blacksmith. He is completely enchanted by the beautiful wife of his new master. Mrs. Csiszér does not love her husband, she was forced to marry him. When the impulsive master falls upon the young man, Ágnes tries to keep him back. Though Sándor confesses his love to her, she coldly refuses him. The young man feels humiliated and leaves the Csiszérs, but neediness forces him back after a while. The love of the little maid, Julis, is a shelter and encouragement for him. Julis becomes pregnant. One night, Sándor takes Csiszér's horses to help the Süles who cultivate their land alone with great hardships. Csiszér notices this. The same night Süle's house burns down. The suicide attempted by a desperate Julis makes Sándor realise his emotions towards the girl. They get married and begin a new life together. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)
