How can we perceive "Kříž u potoka" other than as one of the truly classic novels? This first audio adaptation is really not bad, but it is too routine in every way. Although Jiřina Štěpničková was already a mature actor at that time, meaning she could carry the whole film based on her performance, she had several orders of magnitude worse partners. The debuting Vejražka and the ending Eliáš were not even close to as good as her that year, and when you add Tringlerová and one cutely mishandled rear projection, my enthusiasm went down a bit. Which is too bad.
