One of the first adaptations of a well-known literary work, the classic short story written by Edgar Allen Poe first published in 1839 in Burton's Gentleman's Magazine (Another short, 13-minute version of The Fall of the House of Usher directed by J. S. Watson Jr. and Melville Webber appeared in the same year as Epstein's film.) – The gloomy estate of Sir Roderick Usher and his sick wife Madeline is visited by their friend, Alan. His arrival alone sparks strange rumors among the locals, and these strange impressions only grow throughout Alan's stay in the house. Sir Roderick himself usually spends his evenings painting his wife's portrait, but the closer he gets to finishing it, the more his wife's health withers away. It all culminates in her death. Usher refuses to cope with such loss and feels like something is off... (MFFK Febiofest)

englanti I saw it with a live piano accompaniment by Filip Topol, and it was also played at high speed, so Epstein's attempt to portray in slow motion the feelings of a man, captured in the details of his face, eluded me. Nevertheless, the heating scene is visually very impressive, I also liked the visual effects sequences that play with leaves, etc. But I have to confess that this classic bored me. I guess I don't have the right relationship with old movies. ()
