Arvostetun Alexander Paynen ohjaama The Holdovers seuraa maineikkaan amerikkalaiskoulun jääräpäistä opettajaa (Paul Giamatti), joka joutuu jäämään kampukselle joululoman ajaksi kaitsemaan oppilaita, joilla ei ole paikkaa, minne mennä.
