Sara Rajaei studied at the University of the Arts in Tehran, and the Royal Academy for Visual Arts in the Hague, where she specialised in 3D art. After graduation in 2002, Rajaei attended a 2-year residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten Amsterdam. In her work, she studies the notion of time in relation with memory psychology, narrative techniques, space and absence. Since 2004, her installations, performances and video art have been shown at various festivals and exhibitions around the world. In 2009, Rajaei won the Prix de Rome basic prize.
