Biografia

Graduated in law from UNAM, Alejandro Pelayo completed a master’s degree in administration at ITESM and studied film and television in London. He completed a specialization in politics and cultural management at the UAM and the ILO, and got a Ph.D. with an honorable mention at the UNAM in art history, with a thesis on Mexican film of the 1980s. He has alternated the academy with film and television production. He produced and directed four films: La víspera (1982), Días difíciles (1987), Morir en el golfo (1989) and Miroslava (1992), which won national and international awards. He also directed the television series Los que hizo nuestro cine and Los que hacen nuestro cine for Canal 11 and Canal 22, respectively. In the field of public administration, he was general director of the National Film Library and IMCINE (2000-2001). From 2001 to 2013, he served as Cultural Attaché at the Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles and as visiting professor at UCLA, teaching courses of Mexican film. Since November 2013, he is the general director of the Cineteca Nacional. He is an associate member of the Mexican Culture Seminar.
