James Laxton

Following his graduation from Florida State University Film School, James Laxton has become one of the busiest cinematographers in independent filmmaking.
He was an Independent Spirit Award nominee for his work on writer/director Barry Jenkins' Medicine for Melancholy, and also received a Special Jury Prize at the 2008 Sarasota Film Festival. He was also director of photography on another of the most acclaimed writing/directing feature debuts of recent years, David Mitchell's The Myth of the American Sleepover, which world-premiered at the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival.
Mr. Laxton's other features as cinematographer include Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores' The Violent Kind; David Nordstrom's Sawdust City; Marshall Lewy's California Solo, starring Robert Carlyle; Adele Romanski's Leave Me Like You Found Me; Scott Coffey's soon-to-be-released Adult World, starring Emma Roberts and John Cusack; and Jane Weinstock's The Moment, starring Jennifer Jason Leigh.
His short films as cinematographer include Barry Jenkins' Remigration and A Young Couple. His documentary features as cinematographer include Lee Lynch and Lee Ann Schmitt's The Last Buffalo Hunt.
