Riaru: kanzen naru kubinagarjú no hi (2013)

englanti Holding your attention for two whole hours is an almost a superhuman feat, even though it's an interesting film. Takeru is great, surprisingly Haruka really knows how to run, and you definitely have a problem if your conscience is a plesiosaur. For my tastes, this film was a bit too "quiet". At least it felt that way to me; I felt like the music didn't start playing until halfway through the movie. Basically, the whole movie kind of goes on in a lull, and it even ends that way. It's not bad, but it's definitely not to everyone's taste; its handling is too civilized for the subject matter, and in the end it simply lacks logic – the film ended and I felt like there was something missing (=explanation, by which I don't mean the technology of transferring consciousness), despite the running time. From the trailer it looked like something more vivid; in the end its the viewer who ends up unconscious.

Kazoku: Tsuma no fuzai, otto no sonzai (2006) (sarja)

englanti An interesting drama set in a family that stops working (or at least the wife thinks so). It's got eight episodes of 45 minutes each (except for the first one); it went by quickly, it had a nice brisk pace, and I didn't even get bored. Ishida Yuriko, Takenouchi Yutaka, and Watari Tetsuya all acted well, sometimes more and sometimes less. Except that the boy didn’t, not at all. I'm sorry, but this child actor was just really bad, and it spoiled the experience of an otherwise pretty solid story. Plus it also lost points for the scenes where I was like "that didn’t 't have to be here" and "please no, I don't want to see that". They were scenes that just brought an unpleasant disruption to an otherwise pretty cool series (despite the subject matter). But still a nice series, if you're in the mood for a family drama that doesn't have a bloated running time and is a bit naive, I definitely recommend it.

Orinpikku no minoširokin (2013) (sarja)

englanti It's interesting, lots of good actors, but too long. That whole length absolutely kills it. It approaches the length of two ordinary movies, but I still felt that not much was happening for all the length and the time it took to get to anywhere. Then again, it's peppered with footage from the period. So if you enjoy chasing suicide bombers and you’re interested in the 1964 Olympics in Japan, go for it. I wasn't particularly impressed with either of them.

Rjúsei no kizuna (2008) (sarja)

englanti It's not exactly miraculous, but I was quite taken with it and enjoyed the cast immensely. Basically, up to the fifth episode, it's more of a sneaking, cheating kind of thing, and it's more of a comedy series, but then it gets serious, the siblings are on the trail of a killer, and then you have the lovely Kaname Jun, who I so seldom see play the good guy that it seemed like a rare opportunity. I couldn't tear myself away from the series from the halfway point on, which I consider a big plus. Yes, it's a very naive story, but thankfully in this case that doesn't mean it's bad. And I enjoyed the opening and the theme songs, I still think of them now and then. A weaker 4 stars.

Knight & Day (2010)

englanti These two are absolutely wrong for each other, plus I find her extremely unlikable (but honestly I wasn't paying attention, so I didn't look at her cute little face that much). He's also not high on my list of cute guys. But as a movie where you don't need an IQ higher than 70, it held up beautifully. I had fun, it flew by, it dispensed with the emotional garbage. I'd say the film is a decent representative in its category – I don't want to think too much, I want to be entertained and have a good meal.

Upside Down (2012)

englanti Fighting gravity would appeal to just about chick, and here they pay around with mixing spit for her pleasure. It looks nice, but you get a smack upside the head from those twins that you end up forgetting what you were actually watching and just watch with your mouth open as a pretty interesting movie gets murdered. One star is for Jim Sturgess' beautiful eyes, the other two I don't even know what for.

Hannu ja Kerttu: Noitajahti (2013)

englanti Reminded me more of The Exorcist than Hansel and Gretel... I recommend showing it to your kids at bedtime if you have a morbid desire to change their diapers even at puberty. Otherwise, it’s an ordinary action movie that tried to have funny lines but didn't really succeed. It's a weird mishmash of all sorts of things, but it's watchable.

BBS xiang min de zheng yi (2012)

englanti A movie made for me: just the right amount of romance, friendship, meanness, sentiment, and action. Even though it looks like it's straight out of a video game from the last decade, I enjoyed it... a lot. I watched all the way to the end and was completely satisfied. It's clear to me that it's not for everyone, especially for those who know nothing about how the forum works and don't like cheesy animation. It's not the movie of the century, but it gave me everything I want from a movie.

3 Idiots (2009)

englanti The film was recommended to me by friends with the words: "We didn't even know films this good were being made in India." So I laughed at them and went to watch it. Three hours flew by, I don't even know how. Reasons to see the film: the three idiots are a likeable bunch, it has at least one catchy song, coincidence is a great thing, and dreams do come true. A movie that brings hope = it’s naive. Well, why not turn off for three hours?

Jiu Shi Yao Ni Ai Shang Wo (2013) (sarja)

englanti It didn't take long for me to fall for it. It was sweet, cute, and full of positive energy. I was grinning and enjoying it like the ultimate teenage girl. I was eleven episodes in and I was wondering when my enthusiasm would break, when the twist would come and it would all stop being so nice. And yet nothing awful ever came. Admittedly, it did run out of steam a bit towards the end, but I still enjoyed watching it and I actually felt sorry it was over, for the first time in a very long time. It ended, and I was on the edge of my seat, but I still felt a twinge in my heart that I had to say goodbye to them already. The series doesn't push the envelope, it goes at its own pace, which it can because 21x90 minutes is plenty of time. Even in all that time I still never ended up getting sick of the main character (!), even though she was the good girl type who was everything to everyone; here it wasn't annoying at all, in fact it fit nicely and felt natural. Basically, apart from the little things, it all felt real (as real as a Taiwanese romance series can get). Aaron Yan may not be much of a beauty in my opinion, but I enjoyed watching him – until now I don't know if his character was enjoying a certain situation and he played it brilliantly, or if he himself was enjoyed the entire scene and projected it unintentionally onto the character. I really have no idea, but because "he" was enjoying it, that made it fun to watch. A likable story that avoided a lot of clichés made me feel incredibly good for a few days (and it wasn't just the main cast, but the supporting characters as well, whether it was Dean, or Kate, or all four parents, whose scene together towards the end of the series was just epic, I'm still smiling about it now). Yes, I absolutely loved it. All the relationships, the way the characters acted towards each other, the power of friendship, the decency, the love, the devotion, the cleverness, the sneakiness... perfection. Although I did get a little bored here and there, but that could easily be because I sat on it for a bit and went through it one episode after another. So when I watch it a second time, it's entirely possible I'll give it one more star. A very good 4 stars, almost a 5.
