Kótecudžó no kabaneri (2016) (sarja)

englanti Very bad. Maybe the animation looks stylish and cool, and maybe the soundtrack isn't bad, but those are about the only things I find positive about it. The characters? The story? The trains and the tracks? Ha ha ha. Bad, very bad. If you put together your favorite ice cream, your favorite main course, add a quart of your favorite mustard or ketchup, stir, boil, salt, pepper, burn, and what you scrape off the pot is exactly the quality of this anime. I haven't had something so horribly bad in a long time.

Ansacu kjóšicu - Season 2 (2016) (kausi)

englanti I liked the first season better if for no other reason than that it was more lighthearted, there was more humor in it. Here, it legitimately heats up as the story wraps up, and they have to kill or not kill Koro-sensei. Instead of lightness and humor, which we had a very pleasant amount of in the previous season, we get more drama, explanations of the hitherto unexplained, and some episodes that just feel like fillers, like "enjoy the characters while there's time, the shop is closing soon" and they felt really long to me, even unnecessary, as the first season had already introduced us to the characters enough. On the other hand, there are some captivating moments in this season as well – Karma vs Nagisa, for example. The ending is satisfying, explaining everything, and giving the reader a really big space to say goodbye to the characters. It's weaker, I wasn't enjoying it so much anymore and there were moments where I was downright bored, but altogether it's only a few minutes out of the entire season. It just didn't have that magic for me anymore. Still, above average and definitely fun for the whole family.

Boku no Hero Academia (2016) (sarja)

englanti I absolutely loved this Shōnen and I believe that in Shōnen jump it accomplishes exactly what a manga is supposed to accomplish – friendship, hard work, and winning! I liked it, I'm glad for the second season and I think it really is a very high quality Shōnen. Better than all those Titans, SAO and Tokyo Ghouls combined. I liked it mainly because it was very good at conveying emotions. But I understand that this isn't everyone's cup of tea. Of course it has its weaknesses and you can definitely see that it follows the well-trodden successful formula, but for me it has the right spark I look for in a Shōnen. A weaker 5 stars.

Bakuman. (2015)

englanti I really like this story – the anime completely captivated me, the movie is weaker in that it doesn't have a chance to resolve everything properly, but it's still a very successful work. It's still got that rush of enthusiasm for making manga, it's got exactly the aspects that work in Shōnen jump: friendship, hard work and winning. That is, the ending of the film is a bit more tepid, but otherwise it's packed with emotion and sweat. Basically, it could be compared to a sports movie – the central characters want to win at something, so they try their damnedest to do so. I was very satisfied with the performances of Nana Komatsu, I could see that she had less experience than the others, but she always just appeared, smiled sweetly, then disappeared again. The rest of the male cast was great, you couldn't expect anything else from this first class team. However, what I also really liked was the visuals and effects that were used. They fit the movie beautifully and moved the plot along. Just a classy film about friendship and the making of a successful manga.

Kicucuki to ame (2011)

englanti A nice film that doesn't really say much; on the other hand, it says enough to make it clear what someone is going through, and that's just nice. It's really a very subtle comedy, to the point where it might be hard for some to spot the joke there, because it's really almost cleverly hidden. That's not to underestimate anyone's intelligence, but I think the vibe is more about experience with Japanese films than anything else. Although there are some great young actors (Oguri, Kora), it's clearly the excellent Yakusho Kōji that gets all the attention. A sleepy film set in the mountains of Japan that tells the story of a single episode that breathed life into routine of the villagers.

Tiger & Dragon (2005) (sarja)

englanti Great cast, great acting, episodic plot, soundtrack isn't the worst either, but I just wasn't interested in the Rakugo world at all. I understand very well that it's a good show, but in many cases its humor missed me. Such a pity. I enjoyed the acting and all the brilliant actors who put on a great show together, but it just left me cold for the whole ten episodes and only the eleventh one sort of warmed me up. A better 3 stars. If you like Rakugo at least a little, add a star; if you like it a lot, add a second.

Warcraft: The Beginning (2016)

englanti I'd hardly have anything to fault about it, except for the weird king character, whom I found rather bland and unhelpful given that he was a king and his decisions (however they were at the end of the film) had a big impact. I liked the story, basically I found most of the characters likeable, or at least I didn't develop any aversion to them. I liked Orc Durotan the most, of course, as did many others. But it just didn't have that something that makes you fall in love with it, that makes you leave the theater excited. Yes, it was a fine spectacle and I wasn't bored, but for all the magic the characters had in the film, it didn't quite have real magic. A very strong 3 stars and I'm curious to see the sequel.

Ore monogatari!! (2015)

englanti A very enjoyable watch as there are no love-hate x-angles. Friends are friends, love is love, a dork is a dork, Takeo is a gorilla. Of course My Love Story!! isn't a cinematic gem, but as a relaxing Japanese high school comedy it's excellent. Cute script, cute characters, and overall the only annoying thing about the whole movie is that it took a hell of a long time for the two thick-headed guys to finally get it. Cute, Japanese and finally with great sets! It's actually above average among live action high school romances.

Grasshopper (2015)

englanti Another film from the line of rather strange Japanese films. The film is pieced together from various characters who are assigned some sort of character trait and won't act any different. Character development? What for? Even though we have hired killers, they're all peculiar, in fact they don't even look tough – so definitely don't expect any awesome hardcore fight scenes or interesting killing methods. Every assassin here suffers from some kind of psychological disorder, so they end up in the same car together... The most interesting character was Murakami Jun, who didn't last long, but was the most interesting. As for the central character Suzuki, played by Ikuta Toma... he's a boring patron and I didn't find a way in for the entire movie (unless you count the moment towards the end where he watches the video). It's even got some rough humor, but altogether it's hardly perceptible. It's strange, it fails to enthuse properly, but it's true that it does have something going on here and there. It's hard to know who to recommend it to. A simple 3 stars.

After the Ball (2015)

englanti Basically the same as every Cinderella story, even the division of people into good and bad was like a fairytale. In the end the good guys were pleased and the bad guys were punished. The only plus of this movie is Kate dressing up as Nate, the voice and gesticulations were perfect. But other than that, the performances... no one's working too hard here. I put it in the category of those Disney-type movies like Cinderella again. It was really lacking sparkle; if it had been paced nicely, I'd add a star. If you want something to fall sleep to, this is perfect because you won't have a compulsive need to know what's going to happen next, nor will you get any wake-up calls.
