The Limehouse Golem (2016)

englanti An average atmospheric thriller set in London, where the serial killer Golem is on the rampage. I can usually stomach films like this, the dirty streets of London, hookers, rats and blood create a very dark atmosphere, but here there is hardly any of the above. Bill Nighy is very old and Olivia Cooke is cute. It's a great pity that the film focuses more on the crime line and the theatre scenes, until the interesting twist at the end, which is quite unexpected and surprisingly and nicely brutal. If it weren't for the last 15 minutes I would go even lower with the rating. 55%

Pimeä kasino (2017)

englanti A cool comedy where Will Ferrel isn't as foul-mouthed as usual, but still entertaining. The idea is pretty decent, but the jokes are too few for my taste. The film goes by quickly and with an 80 minute running time it thankfully doesn't get boring. I had fun, but I smiled rather than laughed. For Ferrell fans, however, a must. 65%.

Boolhandang (2017)

englanti I expected more based on the excellent trailer, but I'm not really upset. The visuals are again top-notch, the acting is very good, especially Kyeong-gu Seol as the villain is excellent, but also the young Siwan, whom I hadn't heard of before, surprised me. There's not that much action, but when it comes to it the fights, they are properly gritty, the unexpected twists and turns in the plot are interesting, and I liked the prison scenes, so the individual segments are great stylistically, but overall I think it's better than good. I didn't enjoy it enough to go for 4*. 70%.

Čan šen čchi ťi kuang (2017)

englanti A brisk historical blockbuster from China with a great Vincent Zhao and a funny looking Sammo Hung (fortunately he was just a glimpse here, as he looked terrible). There's quite a lot of action here and thankfully it is R-rated, although it's not overly brutal, occasionally a head or arm go flying. Unfortunately I found the action too monotonous and uninspired towards the end. The story is very weak, but I wasn't bored. 65%

Se (2017)

englanti An excellent experience and the best horror film since The Conjuring. That much is clear from the ratings alone, which hold an amazing 81%, the same as The Conjuring, and the only two horror films to maintain that rating in this century. It, in addition to its amazing ratings and satisfied reviews, boasts excellent box office receipts, grossing a perfect $121 million in its first weekend in America, making it the biggest horror opener ever! Stephen King's adaptation has proved to be a very strong brand where the R-rating will please the most, this is perhaps the first mainstream haunted horror film to ever get an R-rating and it has done the impossible, I hope in the future filmmakers will stick to this and prepare more horror films like this for us. And now for the movie: I haven't read the book, I haven't seen the original It (shame on me!), but I could not have been more surprised by the plot development and as an ignorant viewer, the film absolutely hit me, crushed me, squeezed me and spit me out! From the start, the impressive performance of child actors, the amazing cinematography, the beautiful visuals, the solid soundtrack, the humour, the references to A Nightmare on Elm Street are very rewarding, and once Pennywise is on the set, the horror delights begin, not only his dialogues with the children are considerably scary, but his transformation into various creatures presented an extraordinary horror experience and the imagination of the filmmakers cannot be denied. Some people will complain that the film doesn't have enough scares, but it builds more on atmosphere, which packs a punch; there is also some violence, and the finale in the house is such a blast that I want to see it again immediately. You might jump too much, but you might shit your pants int tribute. For me, I'm completely satisfied. I walked away thrilled. (the silence in the almost full cinema hall at the end was unbelievable). A clear contender for the first place, only Leatherface can take it down this year perhaps! 95%

Narcos - Season 2 (2016) (kausi)

englanti The hunt for Escobar continues! The second season is a bit more action-packed and uncompromising towards the characters, the gradual fall of the great Narco-baron was sad to watch, but still a very powerful, unique experience. I recommend it. The Communist Brothers are decent madmen and I'm curious about the Cali Cartel in the third season. 95%.

Narcos (2015) (sarja)

englanti I've been putting off the series for maybe half a year, but thanks to the current film shortage I've gone full steam ahead and I don't regret a second of the time I spent on it. Pablo Escobar is a someone who has earned my respect and it's definitely good to know how things worked in Colombia at the time. Highlights: the detailed instructions on how to make cocaine, the presidential election, and his own prison. Very good, interesting, engaging and decently gritty. 95%

Mein Blind Date mit dem Leben (2017)

englanti An excellent German drama-comedy that is from my line of work, thus very heart-tugging for me. An almost blind, likeable young man has dreamed of working in a hotel all his life, but because of handicap he is rejected everywhere, so his only chance to get an internship is to hide his disability. The protagonist has to pass four exams (reception, restaurant, bar and kitchen) all set in a 5* star hotel, so if you like gastronomy you’ll be happy as a pig in shit. There are also some funny situations, dramatic moments, a bit of romance and there's also an asshole in charge who can make the atmosphere pretty unpleasant. A great, charming film that is very close to my heart – I went through all those stations myself, so I can't help but give it 5*. 85%

Game of Thrones - Season 7 (2017) (kausi)

englanti One of the best seasons. There were weaker episodes, 1 and 5, but 4, 6 and 7 are among the best Game of Thrones has ever offered. The twists, the intrigue, the action and the visuals are all cranked up to maximum. Seeing all the best characters standing side by side is heartwarming. 100%

Unlocked (2017)

englanti A solid action thriller with an A-list cast. The excellent Noomi Rapace and Orlando Bloom pull the film to above average, but the ageing Michael Douglas and John Malkovich are also a delight. The action is properly fierce and uncompromising, the twists and turns are plentiful and a few are very unexpected, and the view of Prague at the end is a delight, so a clear four. I had fun. 75%
