Adams æbler (2005)

englanti It stars Mads Mikkelsen, but the film was weird for my taste. I wasn't extremely interested in anything, it's not funny or entertaining, I didn't really like the characters, and a few minutes after it was over I had trouble telling in two sentences what it was about. Not much 50%

American Assassin (2017)

englanti I loved the trailer, but I'm not too excited about the film. While it's a subject that I almost always enjoy, something didn't sit right with me here. The opening on the beach or the fight in the hotel were decent and that's about it. I didn’t like the sound, how many times you couldn't hear the bang, even two cars crashing made almost no sound, which was very strange. The R-rating could have been exploited more and young Dylan O'Brien might be more suited a role like this five years from now. Fine for one viewing, but rather average in terms of action. I liked Ethan Hawke's 24 Hours to Live better. 60%.

Geostorm (2017)

englanti Judging by the generic trailers, I didn't expect Geostorm to be decent entertainment after all, and given that it's a debut with I won't skimp the rating. Gerard Butler is great and does a decent job of talking throughout the film. There could have been more destruction but it was very good. Hong Kong was the longest and then a few smaller ones but each time in an interesting location (Moscow, Dubai, Mumbai, Florida). The storyline is different than I expected, so thumbs up for that too. I was not bored for a moment, satisfaction. I liked it more than Into the Storm.75%

Novaja Zemlja (2008)

englanti A solid kill-or-be-killed style film. With prisons bursting at the seams, two hundred Russian prisoners are sent to an island to survive without any security supervision, but as usual, they soon split into two groups and a gritty Russian spectacle ensues. There's no shortage of decent acting, likeable main characters, and badass villains, a decent dose of violence, cannibalism, and enough suspense and action to keep you on your toes. Yeah, I like these movies. The finale is awesome. 80%.

Salvation, The (2014)

englanti A great western-revenge drama with an excellent Mads Mikkelsen and the always seductive Eva Green. The film may not bring anything new to the genre and takes a lot from the classic The Magnificent Seven, but with the genre dead I don't mind at all, I'm happy for any addition that manages to capture the grittiness of the time. If the film was bloodier I'd go for a full rating. Decent entertainment. 80%.

Micmacs (2009)

englanti Another original, creative and very inventive French film with Omar Sy, this time unfortunately in a supporting role. Although the film is not very funny, which is a shame coming from the French, its original plot, full of unusual and interesting situations, provides an exciting spectacle that is full of adventure and weirdness at the same time. I've never seen anything like this in my life, so definitely four stars though I would have welcomed more humour. 70%

Beomjoidosi (2017)

englanti An excellent action ride and one of the best gang war films I've seen from South Korea. The Black Dragon gang comes to Korea from China to collect money from people who don't pay, and those who don't pay lose an arm or a leg. The local gang don't like that and of course the police, ruled by the absolutely fantastic Ma Dong-Seok (the guy is quite possibly the biggest current Korean star, his upcoming nine films are awesome), and here he takes down almost everyone on KO. Yoon Kye-sang does a very good villain again, he's the only one who can technically punch even though he often uses an axe or a knife. There is a lot of action, almost every moment there is some kind of brawl or someone getting hacked to pieces. The pace is very dynamic, the great visuals are a given, there are plenty of fights, they are more like street fights with knives, axes, baseball bats, but very good and decently brutal. I like that the film looks very real, it is not exaggerated, it does not play for effect, every blow hurt, even me, and when an arm is broken at the you have the feeling that it was really broken. The highlights are definitely the big gang clash in the hotel and the final fight in the toilet (technique vs force), which is begging for a fifth star. In the end I'll give a very strong four stars because I think it lacked a twist or a more interesting story, but otherwise I'm totally satisfied. Asia is having a very successful year. 85%.

Logan Lucky (2017)

englanti Steven Soderberg has never convinced me with his direction, but I loved this redneck version of Ocean’s Eleven. A very entertaining and likeable film with an enjoyable cast (Channing Tatum, Daniel Craig and Hilary Swank are excellent) and quite possibly one of the most thoughtful and original heist films I've ever had the opportunity to see. There's the occasional funny scene, no shortage of tension, great chemistry between the characters and I really stared with rapt attention for the final 40 minutes. A very nice surprise, I hadn't even hoped for such satisfaction. Almost 5 stars. 85%.

Last King of Scotland (2006)

englanti A decent film from an exotic setting with a young James McAvoy as a doctor and Forest Whitaker as a dictator in Kampala. I was expecting something grittier and more intense due to the theme and the harsh setting, but thankfully I didn't slip into boredom. Still, the film left me somewhat cold. 65%

Voitte suudella sulhasta (2007)

englanti I'm surprised I hadn't seen the film until today. A great comedy at a time when Adam Sandler was still making funny and decent films. The film impresses mainly because of its idea and the humour that derives from it. I had a good laugh. 80%.
