Plunderer (2020) (sarja)

englanti [Watched 2 episodes, drop] Flunderer, which I would consider a better name for this series, is yet another in a series of much-discounted isekai, only unlike other Bracoid attempts, it's desperately attempting a dogged crossover of "comic ecchi" with "serious combat fantasy". It doesn't work because both are at a shamefully miserable and obnoxious level. I'd liken the central duo of Licht and Hina to the failed combo of Inuyasha and Kagome in Inuyasha (except that Hina is more weepy than an Indian monsoon) or Meliodas’ unfunny ogling of Elizabeth in The Seven Deadly Sins mentioned by Jeoffrey (except that Licht and his perverse fetishism are half a continent away). My tolerance has shifted thanks to anime, but the constant and disproportionate rush to spread Hina's legs is way over the line of decent comprehension. The whole mythology with the numbers is sadly underdeveloped (you'll be constantly asking questions; the sticker joke nearly landed me in the hospital with a punctured forehead), and the creators spent a total of 5 seconds including a lunch break thinking about the villain. The decent artwork is intriguing, but I have a feeling it's going to deteriorate very quickly. It's not quite enough for a continuation. A weak 2 stars

Matkalla avaruuteen (2018) (sarja)

englanti [Season 1] A family adventure intended for the less conflicted and mild-mannered. It doesn't impress or offend, however for an entire central family brimming with excessive intellect, which they often sell decently, this trait is a bit lacking throughout the series, because then the kids wouldn't quite get it. The story is based on the classic tropes of how a family that doesn't quite work for various reasons starts to work again as time goes on by clearing its conscience of previous misdeeds, and where everything that can go wrong does so in a continually annoying and predictable way. The antagonist is a great representative of her field, as her sole purpose is to catalyze these mishaps for weirdly illogical reasons, and at the very least I would have expected that with their scientific intelligence the main characters would have seen through her in the same episode she appeared on set. The bright spot for me was the two parents: Toby Stephens and Molly Parker are great and unbearably likable. The gimmick is decent, and it's fun to watch, but it feels a little sterile here and there. Definitely good entertainment for the maybe +-10-13 year olds, borderline boring for me.

The Witcher – Noituri - Kuunvaloa ja petoksia (2019) (jakso)

englanti As much as I disliked Foltest, the stupid black elves, and as much as I didn't like Triss one bit (I'd strangle them over a dozen times for that), the filming of this story was indeed successful. The battle with Striga vs. the transformation of Yen is a great idea and mutually helped both storylines along. Striga is unfortunately a bit cheap-looking, but the atmosphere can't be faulted. Cavill is impressing me immensely so far and plays Geralt with grace.

It's My Life (2019)

englanti Um, no, I can't give this a very positive review. Without any context, it's just a bunch of clichés on different variations of character stereotypes (crazy, stoic, lolita, dominatrix, pet, etc.) and their associated pre-set interpersonal conflicts or matches. I think they could have come up with a better situation than a cumbersome garage sale. More for kids.

The Mandalorian - Chapter 6: The Prisoner (2019) (jakso)

englanti Definitely a funnier episode that the previous 2. It added exactly 0% to the story, but the fine action almost from start to finish won me over. I chuckled twice ("I was not a stormtrooper!", Baby Yoda's "Saving Private Ryan" moment), a couple of nostalgic interjections. But if this is how the last 2 episodes continue, by which I mean the absence of any progress in the story, I'll be disappointed with season 1 overall.

Bungó Stray Dogs (2016) (sarja)

englanti [Season 1] From the names of the characters, it looks at first glance like a writer's duel, which, even though on screen, only one character has anything to do with writing and they're certainly not fighting with pen in hand. A rather sympathetic and less serious mix of Durarara!!, where our gang (reminiscent of the gang from Akame ga Kill!) serves as the unofficial protectors of the city from the vicious Port Mafia: They tease each other for odd purposes, and when they're not doing that, they're showing off playing practical jokes on their colleagues. The most central plot point is the episodic solving of minor detective cases by characters who have very strong (and, it should be noted, quite original) supernatural abilities, and that, ladies and gentlemen, fits together like a hairdryer with a bubble bath. The plot then has to disqualify the 2 main characters, in an obvious, uncompromising, and unfortunate detour, because one of them can solve every case in 30 seconds (but just doesn't want to on purpose) and the other one can turn off all superpowers (and so is therefore somewhere in the background for strange reasons). Otherwise, there would be nothing to watch, right? Even so, the rules of the game are very convoluted and non-specific, with random things happening on the field until it’s laughable. Yeah, it's entertaining pretty often, thankfully. The fights are solid with handsome visuals, and even comedically it's decent: Each character has a deranged quality to the character that is continuously referenced, even if it's overdone in places (Dazai). Unfortunately, the messiness and indecisiveness of the story, the not knowing how to mix drama and fun, slows down the action terribly, and right when something is finally about to happen, the first season ends. For being only very fleetingly introduced to the good guys, and knowing only cursory information about the bad guys, the arrival of a 3rd entity felt premature and certainly not welcome. It's kind of a more shōnen-esque Durarara!! devoid of intelligent story and direction, but it's no catastrophe. A better 3 stars

The Mandalorian - Chapter 5: The Gunslinger (2019) (jakso)

englanti If I'm to take this as a filler (and it’s regulation filler, unfortunately), it's a nice enough bit of nostalgia. But it's all wrapped up in the word nostalgia, because if I wasn't a SW fan and this was the first SW material of my life, I would have gotten NOTHING out of this episode. I was kind of hoping there would be a story embedded in this series, but so far it's the pulp fun/adventure of a good-hearted bandit and that's more than enough for me. Don't tell me it's running out of breath already.

The Mandalorian - Chapter 4: Sanctuary (2019) (jakso)

englanti Nice chase with the AT-ST, which looks like a creepy mix of a Tyrannosaurus and a Tripod here. That's all there was to it though, unfortunately.

Šinčó júša: Kono júša ga ore Tueee kuse ni šinčó sugiru (2019) (sarja)

englanti [Watched 6 episodes, drop] We've seen countless Isekais where the main character is considerably stronger than the rest of the club. It's simply a phenomenon of the times, because who wouldn't want to become a badass and get a harem of girls? Seiya might be exceptional at this, because unlike most of the nerds, he doesn't play the 100% good-guy-to-the-bone who wants to use his abilities for the common good and play the anime-packing Jesus. He was probably one of the top insurance agents in his past life, and even in the fantasy world he's only concerned with not harming his own skin in any way. In that respect, the anime's first few episodes are quite entertaining, as it pokes fun at all sorts of genre clichés. It's helped a lot by the many-frowning-faced goddess Ristarte (excellently voiced by Aki Toyosaki), who every now and then ends up at the mercy of her chosen servant. All the other (very below average) elements of the series are completely unnecessary, the onscreen comedic moments keep the anime afloat for a long time until the scythe strikes stone and needs to pull out with something that can be called a "story" in broad terms. This is because it brings to the surface those previously disastrous aspects such as the other awful characters (especially the bad guys), the terrible script, and the non-existent concept of plot direction. I feel as if the filmmaker has painfully realized, after a long delay, that there should probably be a plot, which is clearly an unsolvable problem for him. I was so bored with the last episode that I inadvertently did some despised homework in the meantime, because there's not even much to look at in terms of visual execution. So the decision to go no further was a very easy one. 2 stars
