Hobitti: Smaugin autioittama maa (2013)

englanti When you have a trilogy, or rather one book split into three films, the middle section always has the thankless function of tying the beginning and the end together, so it's rare for this story to be as engaging, dynamic and attractive as the sections that hug it from both sides. Without a doubt, The Desolation of Smaug is a beautiful and epic audio-visual spectacle with an unforgettable score that is a joy to watch, because as far as the technical aspects are concerned, as well as the make-up and costumes, the filmmakers have done a decent job. However, as I said before, the second part lacks something compared to the first part that made me watch the screen all the time without distraction. The most impressive parts of the whole film for me were all the scenes with Smaug (Cumberbatch's voice is truly breathtaking), with Gandalf in Dol Guldur (especially the fight with Sauron) and from Thranduil's kingdom (Lee Pace gives the elves a whole new dimension). The fact that they added Tauriel the elf didn't bother me, as I hadn't read the book, and it was probably to balance the genre spectrum with some sort of romantic storyline, but I didn't find the character of Legolas likeable in the LOTR trilogy either, and that hasn't changed here. In short, a film that should absolutely be seen on the big screen, because only then can its qualities be fully appreciated, even if it was still lacking something to perfection.

Itse ilkimys 2 (2013)

englanti Scrat, Donkey, Dory, ... and the Minions. These are the characters that make many animated films worth watching, because their presence alone is a guarantee of fun. But other scenes from the movie sequel about a villain who is actually good really amused me, for example the various suitors, or the "chicken". The story is basically simple, again there are some totally enlightening scenes, and there is the typical happy ending. But I had fun, which is the main thing in comedy. All in all, a solid sequel that is a nice respite for a free afternoon

Nälkäpeli - Vihan liekit (2013)

englanti The second installment of The Hunger Games is in many ways better than its predecessor, but it falls down on a somewhat more drawn-out first half that wasn't even that interesting in the book version. As soon as we enter the arena, though, things start to pick up, the tension could be cut with a chainsaw, and a viewer familiar with the source material, such as myself, is just waiting to see how the filmmakers handle it on the screen. Technically, I have no complaints and as far as the cast is concerned, I was satisfied. I must also not forget the excellent soundtrack topped off with three amazing songs during the credits. In short, a very well made sequel that does not disgrace either the book or its genre

Aningaaq (2013)

englanti An interestingly conceived short that complements the excellently shot Gravity. Contrast an Eskimo man and his family at peace on Earth, while Sandra Bullock is on the edge of life and death in the infinite cosmos. However, it failed to impress me any more, I took it seriously more as a sort of add-on to an already pretty perfect whole that didn't need anything extra

Päivien kuohu (2013)

englanti I love Michel Gondry's films, and The Foam of the Days bears several of his distinctive hallmarks as a director. At first it is a playful and funny fantasy comedy, but halfway through it picks up momentum and turns into a sad love drama that slowly comes to its inevitable end. I liked the work with models, props and special effects. At times it was completely crazy, nonsensical and absurd, but that's what it was (probably) meant to be. A solid and unconventional film that impressed me especially with its premise (I definitely need to find time to read the book) and the cast

Millerit (2013)

englanti A funny and snappy comedy with a really likeable cast that doesn't did not avoid the classic clichés, but I had a good time, which is essential for a comedy, so the genre requirements were met. The funniest scenes were the one in the tent and then with the Mexican policeman. In short, a predictable but very entertaining film that benefits from the cast and hilarious scenes

Suck me shakespeer (2013)

englanti I saw a trailer for this comedy with a very funny title in a German cinema, and since it seemed at first glance to be something better and more meaningful than Girls on Top, I decided to watch it. And I was quite satisfied with the result. The jokes are really funny, not gross, I like Karoline Herfurth and Katja Riemann was rightly goofy as the director. Elyas M'Barek's character doesn't mince words and puts all delinquent and wacky students on a par with the country. All in all, a likeable film that is perfect for a free evening and revives the comedy genre with its refined humour, vocabulary and overall idea, plus it features a great soundtrack

Thor: The Dark World (2013)

englanti I found the second Thor to be overall more lighthearted and funny, which was probably due to a different director, but each episode had its own charm. This sequel was full of brisk action, funny lines, and there was even a touching scene. Malekith was a really convincing villain, while Loki was somewhat of a comedic villain, but still a good one. I also have to point out that it really is always worth waiting until the end of the film, but audiences are just unteachable. In short, I went to the cinema with some expectations that were met, so I'm definitely satisfied

Gravity (2013)

englanti For almost a whole month, I've been stumbling to the cinema to see Gravity, which I've been looking forward to since the first trailer, because I knew I was going to experience something unforgettable, unprecedented, and something I absolutely had to see in the cinema, because that's where this spectacular film rightfully belongs. To be honest, I didn't know what to expect at all, but I was really happy with the result. Gravity offers breathtaking visuals that are complemented by an absolutely stunning and magical soundtrack. Sandra Bullock was excellent and convincing as Dr. Stone - I love her as an actress and I certainly don't begrudge her anything for her participation in Miss Congeniality, as many do. Since I saw the film entirely in German without subtitles, I didn't understand every word, but I did get the point of every scene, although in this case it was more about the immediate feeling that radiated off the screen, and in 3D. I experienced with the protagonist all the pitfalls and sorrows present in the cosmos all the time. Some scenes evoked a sense of fear in me, others made my eyes glaze over or brought a smile to my face. In short, a film that will hopefully never be forgotten by the history of cinema, I will remember it for the rest of my life - and as they say "hope dies last" - that is what we should all follow

L'Auberge espagnole (2002)

englanti We started Erasmus in Germany with a very appropriate film, which you enjoy even more when you know everything that studying abroad entails, from registration, through a ton of paperwork, to arrival and stay (I'd rather not think about departure just yet). The main character didn't really have it easy in the beginning, but eventually he bounced back, settled in and had quite possibly the best year of his life. A lot of the funny scenes were really genuine and you really come across them during your stay, whether you're rooming in a private residence or in a dorm
