"Gamera: Guardian of the Universe" is one of the best movies for me that were made in the Gamera series. It is a film that surprises you with how it stands out in the whole series, precisely because of how dark it is. It is a movie that leaves no doubt that kaiju films can be led differently than just as classic battles or family films. However, this is probably also the reason why such films will not be commercially successful.
