Marjoleine Boonstra shows the residents of nursing home Akropolis, which has a museum of memories in the basement. It has displays full of tea pots and biscuit tins, closets full of linen and service, but also a completely furnished baby's room, kitchen, washhouse and barn. Here, elderly people can shuffle through the rooms with their walking frames and admire the attributes of their childhood. The simple objects from the old days offer something to hold on to and some comfort in their final life stage. Director Hans Becker, with his sister the initiator of the museum, considers it his mission to provide the aged people with so-called conversation pieces. He calls it a museum of pleasure. A place 'where everybody can chatter about his or personal things.' He even had a panorama of a beach scene painted on a wall. With real sand, genuine shells and an old cane deck chair in front. On this 'beach', Boonstra asks the residents about their dreams, the love of their life and their best and worst moments. (Nederlands Film Festival)
