Granfather Never Saw the Sea

With her film essay the director explores her own family history. She interlaces family recordings, found footage and recent images into a visual and acoustic examination of her origins. It reveals the frictions, cracks and never confessed longings, which ultimately betray domestic happiness as merely staged. Beyond the personal, the film documents the atmosphere of an entire era.
